Delta Goodrem will take a break from her assault on the US market to play a series of intimate theatre shows in Australia early next year.

The singer has spent several months trying to win over record executives and audiences in the US, and her Believe Again tour will be her first national tour of Australia in three years.

Goodrem will play songs from across her career including her most recent album Delta, and said she was extremely excited to play in front of Australian audiences again.

"I can't believe it's taken this long but I've already started putting the set list together and there are so many songs to play," she said.

"I would have liked to tour earlier, but I'm just glad I can finally tell people the dates when they ask me when I'm touring next."

2005's Visualise tour saw Goodrem playing the biggest arenas in the country.

This time the 23-year-old said fans could look forward to a more intimate shows.

Tickets go on sale August 21.

* January 16 and 17 - Hamer Hall, Melbourne

* January 24 - Royal Theatre, Canberra

* January 27 - Convention Centre, Brisbane

* January 30 - Adelaide Entertainment Centre

* February 3 - Perth Kings Park
