Filmmaker Marc Webb has revealed that Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are "magic" together in 500 Days Of Summer.

"When you're doing a movie about a relationship, that dynamic is the engine of the movie, it's what propels it forward and if that doesn't work you don't have anything," said the director at the film's Hollywood premiere.

"I think we have magic in spades with these guys," he said.

He went on: "If you read the reviews, people have been really reacting to that and I mean, how can you not want to spend time with Joe and Zooey? I mean they're magic on screen, just magic."

The romantic comedy focuses on the story between the couple, and how their relationship develops throughout the years. It's a reunion for the two stars, who acted in 2001's Manic together.

"The character that I play he's got a bit of a misconception, a simplistic point of view on love because probably he's watched too many simple movies and listened to too many simple pop songs," explains Joseph.
